Panasonic Industry have released the PAN9520, this 2.4 GHz 802.11 b/g/n embedded Wi Fi module is based on Espressif’s ESP32-S2 microcontroller that includes the powerful Xtensa® 32-bit LX7 CPU. The module has an integrated chip antenna and crystal to ensure connection performance over full temperature range and lifetime, whilst on-board QSPI memory can be specified enabling the module to be used in a variety of stand-alone or host-controlled applications.
The PAN9520 is one of the smallest modules on the market today yet it offers a rich set of peripherals like full-speed USB OTG, SPI, UART, I²C and many more, it combines a high performance CPU, high sensitivity wireless radio, baseband (BB) processor, Medium Access Controller (MAC), encryption unit, ROM bootloader, chip-internal SRAM, and module-internal QSPI flash and PSRAM. Security is also well catered for with features including CCMP, TKIP, WAPI, WEP, BIP, and an AES accelerator enabling the usage of secure data connections.
For designs that require a separate antenna there is a dedicated 50 Ω RF-pad and the module’s RF-output can be switched between the on-board ceramic chip antenna and the dedicated pad.
Block Diagram
The high level of integration in the PAN9520 module allows designers to implement Wi-Fi in their end-product designs very quickly and easily, the on-board memory allows use of the module in standalone mode or it can be interfaced with a host controller in the user's system. Parallel support of access point and station mode allows easy setup of simultaneous Wi Fi connections from the module to smart devices and home network routers.
The compact surface mount module measures just 24 x 13 x 3.1mm allowing it to be easily integrated into a wide range of applications including portable devices. The module is available in two memory size variants, 2MB of PSRAM and 4MB Flash or no PSRAM and 1MB Flash and is specified for operation over the temperature range -40°C to +85°C. Modules are supplied on tape and reel packaging compatible with automatic placement equipment.
Evaluation Board
The PAN9520 is supported with a fully featured evaluation board (ENW49D01AZKF). The evaluation board is fitted with the 2MB of PSRAM and 4MB Flash variant of the PAN9520 module and includes an onboard Segger J-Link Debugger, UART to USB converter, USB and Camera interface, access to all module GPIOs and an Arduino UNO R3 header. When used in conjunction with the Espressif Integrated Development Framework (ESP-IDF), software can be developed for a wide range of applications. At the same time, a huge number of software examples can be used as a starting point for the development process. The evaluation board enables designers to explore the full feature set and capability of the PAN9520 embedded Wi-Fi module allowing quicker time to market.

STMicroelectronics has unveiled the ST1VAFE3BX, the first dual-function biosensor combining a vertical analog front-end (vAFE) for detecting biopotential signals and a 3-axis ultralow-power accelerometer for motion tracking.
Panasonic have one of the widest ranges of Polymer capacitors available in the industry. Polymer capacitors have excellent frequency characteristics due to their ultra-low ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance) values; they exhibit low impedance near their resonance point which reduces AC ripple in power circuits.
