The Pickering 104, 119 and 131 Series are miniature Single-in- Line (SIL) high voltage reed relays capable of up to 3kV stand-off voltages depending on the model. These reed relays are intended for applications that are beyond the capabilities of conventional SIL reed relays where high voltages are involved such as such as mixed signal semiconductor automatic test equipment, high-end cable testers, backplane testers, medical electronics, electric vehicles, solar energy and high voltage instrumentation.
Three types of dry contact switches are available, capable of standing-off 1, 1.5 or 3kV d.c. depending on the series and contact configuration chosen. The 104 and 119 series 3kV stand-off versions have an increased clearance between the switch and coil pins to accommodate the higher voltage. The reed relays are offered in 3V, 5V, 12V and 24V coil options (depending on series) and are capable of switching 1.0A for the 104 series and 0.7A for the 119 & 131 series with carry currents of 1.5A and 1.25A and power ratings of 25W and 10W respectively. The Mercury wetted contacts option on the 104 series offers an enhanced switching current of 2A and carry current of 3A with a 50W power rating.
High Voltage mini-SIL Reed Relay Key Features
The compact 104 series high voltage reed relays are housed in a SIL package measuring 24.1 mm length by 6.3 mm width and 8.2 mm height for 1 Form A (SPNO) types and 29 mm x 6.3mm x 12.5 mm for 1 Form B (SPNC) and 2 Form A (DPNO) contact configurations. The reed switches with 2 Form A (DPNO) contact configurations are vertically stacked so the relays require the same board area as the 1 Form A (SPNO) type.
The miniature 119 series high voltage reed relays are also housed in a SIL package and measure just 15.1 mm length for 1.5kV and 2kV stand-off types and 20.1 mm for 3kV stand-off types, width of parts is 3.7 mm throughout and height is 6.6 mm for 1 Form A (SPNO) and 8.9 mm for 1 Form B (SPNC) and 2 Form A (DPNO) contact configurations. The reed switches with 2 Form A (DPNO) contact configurations are vertically stacked so the relays require the same board area as the 1 Form A (SPNO) type.
The 131 series deliver a minimum stand-off of 1500V and are the smallest high voltage device of their type on the market measuring just 12.5 mm length, 3.7 mm width and height of 6.6 mm. The relays utilise vacuumed, sputtered ruthenium reed switches, making them an excellent choice where a wide range of signals are involved.
The reed relays are available with dry contacts in a range of configurations and coil voltages, the 104 series is also available with the option of mercury wetted contacts.
Low-level switch options in the Series 119L and 131L The 119 and 131 series also have low level switch options, designated 119L and 131L, these relay ranges have been specifically developed for mixed-signal applications where low and stable contact resistance is critically important for the application. They are still capable of an impressive minimum 1.5kV stand-off voltage and have extended contact stability testing completed over 2000 operation cycles, at a low-level switching load as part of the standard production testing. This gives the end-user confidence in the stability of the contact resistance within the relay design over a variety of specific applications.
All three series feature internal mu-metal magnetic screening to avoid the effects of magnetic interaction between relays this allows very close stacking of the relays on the PCB. In the case of the 104 series these can be stacked on a 0.25-inch (6.35 mm) pitch whilst the 119 and 131 series can be stacked on a 3.7 mm pitch for Form A and 13.7 mm for the 119 series Form B contact configurations. The additional 10 mm spacing required for the 119 series Form B types is due to the magnetic field from the internal biasing magnet could slightly affect the sensitivity of the relay alongside.

The Pickering 100 and 101 Series are a complete range of Single-in- Line (SIL) reed relays featuring low thermal EMF and primarily intended for direct drive from CMOS logic IC's.
Pickering Electronics have released a new high-voltage, long-life, dry reed relay, in its Series 67 range. The Series 67 is now the highest rated power reed relay from Pickering.
Pickering have increased the stand-off voltage values for its prevalent small-size 104 Series high voltage reed relays with the addition of a 4kV model. The newly introduced version has a 1000VDC stand-off voltage improvement on the previous 104 Series
