The TLR3AP series of metal plate current sense resistors from KOA are suitable for measuring currents up to 100A. Available in industry standard 2512 SMD case size the TLR3AP series is offered in resistance range from 0.5mΩ to 10mΩ with 1% tolerance, power rating between 5W and 3W depending on the resistance value and option of ±50ppm or ±75ppm T.C.R.
These TLR devices are manufactured for precision resistance by milling the top of the resistor rather than the traditional method of trimming where a parallel cut is made in the resistance element to adjust for the desired resistance during the manufacturing process. By milling instead of trimming the resistance means that there are no hotspots on the device as the power is dissipated evenly through the resistor element, resulting in an even temperature distribution which increases reliability. The lack of hot spot also results in a high pulse power capability up to 3kW for 1mS.
Trimming vs. Milling
In the image above the trimmed resistor has a hot spot around the trimming cut, conversely the TLR has a much more even spread of heat across the whole resistor element giving better heat distribution for resistance stability. Another key advantage of milling vs. trimming is a much lower inductance, typical inductance is in the region of 1.5nH for the TLR series depending on resistance value chosen.
The TLR series metal plate current sense resistors are AEC-Q200 tested and feature an operating temperature range from -65 °C to +170 °C.
The KOA TLR series metal plate current sense resistors are suitable for use in Automotive electronics, Motor control units, Power supplies, AC / DC-DC converter, Metering, CPU current sensing and charge controllers.

KOA have developed the RS73 series of precision resistors based on the more robust thick film resistor technology, featuring a T.C.R. down to ±25ppm and a tolerance as low as ±0.1%, the resistors are ideal for precision designs.
KOA have introduced the WU73 series of wide terminal surface mount resistors, this family of resistors offer high power handling, high reliability and excellent temperature stability performance.
KOA have introduced the RC series of surface mount test points, they allow customers to conveniently measure signals and voltages at various points on the PCB either during production or in the field.
KOA have introduced the TLRZ series of metal plate zero-ohm jumpers which allow extremely high currents in very small package sizes compared with standard thick film jumpers.
