Hybrid supercapacitors from Eaton Bussmann offer small footprint and high energy density, samples available from Anglia.

Date Published : 04/07/2024 Share with:

The Eaton Bussmann HS series hybrid supercapacitors are small-footprint, high-power energy storage devices ideal for a host of energy and industrial applications.

The HS series hybrid supercapacitors comprise of new proprietary materials which allows them to offer higher energy density vs. standard supercapacitors in a much more compact footprint. The design of the HS series hybrid supercapacitor incorporates two electrodes, one is similar to that of a battery and the other is a standard supercapacitor electrode, this allows the HS series to offer energy densities that are closer to those of conventional rechargeable Li-ion batteries and up to 10 times higher than standard supercapacitors.

The HS series hybrid supercapacitors are offered in cylindrical style cells with radial pins so they can be soldered directly to the PCB, they are offered in capacitance values from 10 F to 220 F with a maximum working voltage of 3.8 V. The HS series hybrid supercapacitors feature ultra-low ESR making them suitable for use in applications where they can be utilized as the sole energy storage device or alongside batteries to optimize system cost, performance, lifetime and runtime.

HS series hybrid supercapacitor overview

Available in two options, the HSL supercapacitors are optimized for lower temperature operation with a temperature range of -25°C to +60°C, whilst the HS supercapacitors have been optimized for high temperature applications with a temperature range of -15°C to +70°C which can be extended up to +85°C with linear voltage derating to 3.5 V.

The HS series hybrid supercapacitors have a lifetime of 1000 hours at full rated voltage and operating temperature, they can cycle between rated voltage and 2.5V with a 3 second rest period between cycles at +20°C for 500,000 (HS series) or 250,000 (HSL series) charge/discharge cycles.
