The OKI-78SR series of non-isolated switching regulator DC/DC power converters from Murata have been designed for embedded applications. The fixed single output converters offers both tight regulation and high efficiency directly at the power usage site, and is a direct plug-in replacement for TO-220 package 78xx series linear regulators. Typically, no extra components are required.
The OKI-78SR series has an input voltage range of 7-36V or 15-36V (12V output type) and output voltage options of 3.3V, 5V and 12V with max. output currents of 1.5A for 3.3 & 5V models and 1A for 12V model. Based on fixed-frequency buck switching topology, the high efficiency means very low heat and little electrical noise, requiring no external components. The converter’s efficiency is a very high from 85.5% up to 95.3%, eliminating the need for a heatsink that adds cost and increases complexity in the design and manufacturing processes.
Functional block diagram
The OKI-78SR DC/DC converters have been cleverly packaged in a form factor mimicking that of a three-terminal 78xx linear regulator and is available in both vertical and horizontal mounting options. The package size is just 10.4 x 16.5mm (WxH).
The OKI-78SR series operating temperature range is -40°C to +85°C and standard features include a factory-set Vout at 3.3V, 5V or 12V, short-circuit/over-current protection, UL/EJ/IEC 60950-1, second edition safety approvals and RoHS compliance.
