The NCP series of NTC Thermistors from Murata are available in a wide range of resistance values and surface mount packages in 0201, 0402 and 0603 sizes.
NTC or Negative Temperature Coefficient Thermistors are non-linear resistor devices where the resistance changes with temperature, in the case of NTC’s the resistance decreases as the temperature increases, this characteristic makes NTC thermistors suitable for temperature sensing and temperature compensation applications.
The rate of resistance change with increase in temperature for NTC thermistors is defined by the beta constant (B-constant) measured in °K (Kelvin), the B-constant parameter for the NCP series of NTC thermistors from Murata has a tight tolerance of 3% or lower across the range enabling accurate temperature measurements to be made. As well as the tight tolerance B-constant, the NCP series also has uniform Max. operating current and thermal dissipation constant characteristics across all 3 sizes allowing designers to select the best size suited to the application.
The NCP series comes in 3 industry standard compact surface mount sizes, 0201 (NCP03), 0402 (NCP15) and 0603 (NCP18). They are available in a resistance ranges from 220 Ohm to 470K Ohm, depending on the series and tolerance chosen, and have an operating temperature range from -40°C to +125°C.
The tight tolerance and compact size of the NCP series makes them ideal for a wide variety of applications including industrial machines, instrumentation & measurement equipment, lighting, internet of things (IoT), sensors, wearables and other hand held portable devices.
