XLamp® LEDs maintain over 70% of their original luminous flux at 50,000 hours — long after conventional outdoor light sources have burned out.
Unlike many conventional lighting technologies, LEDs contain no mercury or heavy metals. Not only are LEDs better for the environment during their operational life, the disposal of LEDs will not further pollute our world’s landfills with hazardous waste.
HID-based light fixtures waste approximately 20 to 50 percent of the light generated due to the lack of directionality of the light source. LED-based fixtures overcome this handicap by making use of a directional point light source.
XLamp 4550 XL series and XR LEDs have leading brightness and efficacy for red, green, and blue lamps in their respective product classes. XLamp LEDs are the perfect choice for outdoor colour changing installations in colder climates because the light output and efficacy increases in colder environments.
Cree works with leading optics and LED driver companies to define compatible products. Many optics vendors have optical solutions tailored to the XLamp LED package to allow customers to create narrow spots of coloured light or create wide, diffuse washes of colour. Likewise, many driver vendors have products that provide complete colour control and monitoring, allowing you to create any colour combination or lighting sequence imaginable.
The XLamp 4550 XL series and XR LEDs cover an entire range of drive currents to suit almost any possible colour changing application. XLamp 4550 XL LEDs are rated for 125 mA (equivalent to 0.5 W). XLamp XR LEDs are dual-current parts that are rated for both 350 mA (equivalent to 1 W) and up to 700 mA (equivalent to 3 W).
XLamp LEDs are high-quality, leadless, surface-mount packages designed for industry-standard reflow soldering, making them easy to assemble into lighting designs. Also, Cree XLamp LEDs retain the same footprint between product generations. Therefore, upgrading to the next-generation XLamp will require minimal design modification.
One of the most important features of XLamp LEDs is the electrically neutral thermal path. This feature allows the light fixture to make use of FR4 PCB with thermal vias, which is 8 to 10 times less expensive than metal core PCB (MCPCB).
Cree qualifies the entire XLamp product line with JEDEC-standard procedures using the highest acceptance criteria in the LED industry. Cree is committed to making high-quality power LEDs and it shows in our testing criteria.
All XLamp LEDs are leadless, surface-mount components designed for standard reflow soldering. Unlike conventional halogen lamps, XLamp LEDs do not require less-reliable hand-soldered wire connections. Using XLamp LEDs, lights are much more resistant to failure from shock or vibration — from both bulb failure and connection failure.
Unlike fluorescent lights, LEDs become more efficient as the ambient temperature decreases. LEDs have no problems turning on in cold weather and are one of the most reliable lighting sources in any outdoor condition.
Shocks and vibration shorten the lifespan of a traditional light bulb. Solid State Lighting remains unaffected..
