Introducing the Hirose FH67 series, FPC/FFC connector with automatic one action lock design, samples available from Anglia

Date Published : 31/03/2023 Share with:

HIROSE, a world-class manufacturer of innovative connector solutions, has introduced the FH67 series of 0.5mm pitch FPC/FFC connectors that feature a convenient single action cable locking mechanism which speeds up production time and reduces manufacturing errors.

The FH67 series one action lock design leads to a significant reduction in man-hours during production, instead of the traditional method of opening the actuator, inserting the FPC/FFC and then closing the actuator again; connection is completed by just inserting the FPC/FFC cable into the connector, the locking mechanism then automatically closes safely securing the cable in place. The innovative automatic one action lock design means manual operation of the lock lever is not required at the time of inserting the FPC, this also means the cable can be inserted with one hand. The automatic locking mechanism also prevents damage which can occur to the lever on manually operated types during production handling and it contributes to a significantly faster assembly time and reduction of mating failure issues.

One action lock design

The FH67 series have a compact 0.5mm pitch with a depth of just 3.57mm meaning minimal PCB space is required providing a high-density connection system, the connectors also feature a low-profile height of just 5.2mm. The connectors accept the FFC/FPC cable vertically, when correctly mated a convenient locking leaver protrusion is visible making it easy to visually inspect the mated status of the connectors from the top surface. This visual indicator showing correct connection of the cable, virtually eliminates the risk of insufficient cable insertion during the assembly process.

Visual FPC/FFC correct insertion confirmation

The connectors feature a high retention force making them suitable for applications where vibration or the risk of accidental disconnection might be an issue, the one action automatic lock mechanism has a 2-point moulded feature which slots into the notches on either side of the FPC cable, securely locking it in place until the locking mechanism is opened. The terminations of the connectors utilise a two-point contact design with independent springs; these prevent contact failure, due to dust or other foreign object ingress, giving a high contact reliability. The FH67 series can be used with FPC/FFC cables and are also compatible with Shielded FFC cables where improved EMI prevention is required.

The FH67 series connectors are halogen free and have a voltage and current rating of 50V, 0.5A. The terminations are gold-plated with tin-plating used for the ground connection, the connectors are available in a selection of 10, 20, 30 and 40 positions, giving designers a wide choice of options for applications requiring a compact, reliable and production friendly connector system. The FH67 connectors are rated for operation at temperatures from -55°C to +125°C.
