The LT8653S and LT8652S families from Analog Devices are dual step-down regulators that deliver up to 2A or 8.5A of continuous current from both channels and support loads up to 3A or 12A from each channel respectively. Both families use Analog Devices proprietary second generation Silent Switcher architecture to minimize EMI emissions while delivering high efficiency at high switching frequencies. This includes integration of bypass capacitors to optimize high frequency current loops and make it easy to achieve advertised EMI performance by eliminating layout sensitivity.
The LT8653S and LT8652S families feature fast, clean, low overshoot switching edges enable high efficiency operation even at high switching frequencies, leading to a small solution size with a wide control loop bandwidth for fast transient response.
The LT8653S is a full featured, customizable voltage regulator, but also has several pin strap options to select internal 2MHz switching frequency, internal compensation and internal feedback resistor divider options to create a simple, compact two output voltage regulator with only five external components.
LT8652S has output current monitoring and limiting allowing inductors to be selected for the maximum output current in a given application. Differential output voltage sensing provides accurate voltage regulation at the point of load for high current applications. The two channels of the LT8652S can be combined to deliver 17A, and two ICs can be combined for a 4-phase, 34A supply. The LT8652S family is particularly ideal for noise sensitive applications such as PLLs and high bandwidth data and communications systems.
Both families feature a Burst Mode operation enabling ultralow standby current consumption or forced continuous mode can be used to control frequency harmonics across the entire output load range.
The LT8653S and LT8652S are supported by the DC2535A and DC2523A demonstration circuits respectively. Demonstration circuit DC2535A is a 42V, dual channel, 2A synchronous step-down regulator featuring the LT8653S. The demo board is designed for two outputs: 5V and 3.3V from a 5.5V to 42V input. Each output can source up to 2A continuous current at the same time. The wide input range allows a variety of input sources, such as automotive batteries and industrial supplies. The integrated power switches and other necessary circuitry reduce the external component count and simplify design. Selectable spread spectrum mode of operation can further improve EMI/EMC performance. Ultralow quiescent current in Burst Mode® operation achieves high efficiency at very light loads. Demonstration circuit DC2523A is an 18V, 8.5A (continuous)/12A (peak) synchronous step-down Silent Switcher® with 16µA quiescent current featuring the LT8652S. Top and bottom power switches, compensation components and other necessary circuits are inside of the LT8652S to minimize external components and simplify design. The demo board has two outputs: 3.3V and 1.2V from a 3.6V to 18V input. The wide input range allows a variety of input sources, such as automotive batteries and industrial supplies.
The LT8653S and LT8652S families can be used in a wide range of applications such as General Purpose Step-Down regulators, Server Power, Automotive and Industrial Power Supplies.
