The Datamate Coax series from Harwin are a 4.00mm pitch ganged connector system, they are faster to assemble and more secure than both traditional single coax connector solutions and other ganged connector products in the market.
Traditional RF contacts are typically packaged as single bayonet or screw type connections, whilst these are suitable for single connection requirements they can be prone to misconnection or mis-mating when multiple connections are required. The more connections required by the application multiplies the risk of misconnection. Assembly time also increases with individual screw-type connectors creating bottlenecks or slowing down the production process. The Harwin Datamate Coax connectors are designed to overcome the issues associated with traditional single Coax connectors, they have a high-reliability and compact design allowing them to help increase production assembly speeds with up to 8 Coax connections which can be made with just one connector.
The Datamate Coax connectors use high-quality, high-reliability 50Ω gold-plated coaxial contacts. These contacts are precision-turned Beryllium Copper parts manufactured at Harwins UK facility, they are ideal for vibration environments and multiple insertions. The insulator material is PFTE, to withstand high temperatures.
The shrouded housing design on the Datamate Coax connectors protects both male and female contacts prior to, and during, mating cycles. The housing has a central polarisation feature to eliminate mis-mating due to incorrect orientation. Both features give superior functionality over other ganged coax systems currently available in the market.
The Datamate Coax connector range are available in 2, 4, 6 and 8 positions, the through hole male connectors offer a choice of vertical and right angle PCB mounting style with 3mm or 4.5mm PCB pin lengths to suit a range of PCB thicknesses. The horizontal connectors are fitted with threaded inserts and the vertical connectors have threaded bolt fixings to give additional support. The stainless steel jackscrew fixings give a strong and secure mating, both to mating connectors and board-mounting to the PCB. Developed for high-reliability in applications subject to vibration and shock, the jackscrew systems provide excellent robust strain relief. Suitable nuts and bolts are available separately.
Cable female jack connectors suitable for RG178 or similar Ø2mm coax cable are available in 2, 4, 6 and 8 contact positions to match the male PCB connectors. In addition ready-made cable assemblies are also available to help reduce assembly time, the cable assemblies use high grade, light weight RG178 cable and can be specified as single or double ended in 150mm, 300mm or 450mm standard lengths. The ready-made cable assemblies give production departments the quick and trouble-free access they need for cabling without having to tie up in-house resources or make major investments into an expensive custom-built arrangements and tooling.
