Analog Devices have introduced the ADRF5740 4-bit digital attenuator manufactured using a silicon process that is designed to operate across an ultrawideband frequency range of 10 MHz to 60 GHz with low insertion loss. The device features high input linearity and allows attenuation control in 2 dB steps up to 22 dB, with attenuation accuracy of ±(0.1 + 1.0% of state) up to 20GHz and ±(0.2 + 7.0% of state) up to 55GHz with a typical step error of just ±0.30 dB and ±0.60 dB respectively.
The ADRF5740 has an RF input (ATTIN) power handling capability of 24 dBm average and 24 dBm peak for all states and operates from a dual supply voltage of ±3.3 V. The ADRF5740 RF ports are designed to match a characteristic impedance of 50 Ω. The device has a flexible control interface supporting parallel mode control, and CMOS- and low voltage transistor to transistor logic (LVTTL)-compatible controls.
ADRF5740 Functional Block Diagram
The ADRF5740 device is suited to a wide range of applications including Industrial scanners, Test and Instrumentation equipment, Communications infrastructure for 5G millimeter wave, Military radios, Radar, Electronic Counter Measures (ECMs), Microwave radios, Very small aperture terminals (VSATs) and other RF applications.

The ADRF5740 is housed in a compact 2.5 mm × 2.5 mm 16-terminal land grid array (LGA) package which is RoHS compliant and has a specified operating temperature range from −40°C to +105°C.
Evaluation Board
Analog Devices have also developed the ADRF5740-EVALZ-185 and ADRF5740-EVALZ-292 evaluation boards to assist designers when evaluating the features and performance of the ADRF5740 device. The evaluation boards are fitted with the ADRF5740 device along with all required external components including the RF connectors allowing simple connection to test equipment, the boards also feature a through line for calibration. The ADRF5740-EVALZ-292 is populated with 2.92 mm RF connectors, whereas the ADRF5740-EVALZ-185 is populated with 1.85 mm RF connectors.
